For those familiar with MST3K, this was sort of our “Manos: the Hands of Fate” episode. And like Joel & the ‘bots we survived, with only a few deep emotional scars.

As for the word that is the same backwards and upside down, there are three:

    pod hey nu

As for which MST3K episode, I’d say “Rock Climbing” is more in line. :)

One of the issues with using actual riddles and puzzles in a game, is that they do not challenge the character, they challenge the player. The character may have the necessary background to solve the riddle or puzzle, and that means a skill or knowledge test.

Now I’m not going to say that all puzzles or riddles are bad, just the ones that are central to making progress on the plot. Case in point: The Riddler, his riddles and puzzles are not central in solving the plot, they are just barriers to hero, Batman in this case, in capturing him or stopping him. The riddles are never that hard, and they only add flavor to the character.

Puzzles and riddles should not be the focus of the adventure, but more like a spice added to enhance the play and provide a barrier that the more intellectual members of the your party can overcome.

Of course if you have someone like Groggy, all bets are off.

The Riddlers riddles are usually either incredibly easy or just so unintuitive that Batman can only solve them because the plot dictates for him to do just that (see the old Justice League cartoons)…

Anyway, at this point I’d like to tell you guys I love this podcast (haven’t yet caught up with it so I’m posting here at the most recent episode I heard). It is quickly becoming my favorite actual play podcast, a breed of ‘cast where good ones are few and far in between to my taste.

This Zo campaign also featured really nice voice-acting from you guys, which really not only adds flavor to the story but especially in a skype game helps me to tell your characters apart very well.

Love the show, hope you keep it up like this!
